About...

Sad Sells are a new Manchester Folk rock band fronted by Xavier Jacques.  Debut single ‘Between the Covers’ see’s the band introduce themselves and their lush soundscape with a track full of warmth, embedded in singer-songwriter roots

Lyrics...

To me the track talks through a relationship where one person is free and the other is ‘uptight’ with one trying to get the other to relax and live

This is ever present within the chorus “Why’d you always act so tough, are you running from a war, that’s just caught up” which lends itself to the idea of mental health and building up walls from people

Production...

The instrumentation fits the style perfectly with each instrument contributing different parts to paint a full picture, the arrangement allows the band to easily translate the track live as heard on the video of their Night and Day Café headline gig

The mix creates a free-flowing track that is coherent and travels with the lyrics through the story, the track feels like the band recorded it live in the studio

Summary...

With an excellent debut track and headline gig already played in Manchester, Sad Sells are already cementing themselves as ones to watch in the future. I’m excited to see how their sound transcends and their discography grows in the coming months
