Goo Interview

First thing first, how are you guys doing? How’re you feeling about the release of ‘You’re In Mono’?

Hi! We are very well thank you. We’re really excited to release some new music! Our debut EP ‘Chomp’ was released back in August 2023, and we’ve been writing lots of new songs over the past year, so we can’t for people to hear what we’ve been coming up with.

You’re heading on tour in May, are you excited for people to hear your new material?

Absolutely. We’re playing our hometown of Keighley on 10th May, and we were comparing our new setlist with the last time we played there back in October. We have 4 brand new songs to play since the last time, and a few more since we last played in France. We’re always writing and it helps keep things fresh for us to keep rotating the set lists with new and old material.

With new music on the way, how would you compare the upcoming release to your previous work?

That’s a bit of a tricky question because we tend to flit between genres and mash them up unintentionally. ‘You’re In Mono’ is probably the most punky song we’ve released to date, but we have quite a few punky / garage rock songs that we haven’t recorded yet. Lyrically, it’s the most politically charged song we’ve done, even though it’s a bit tongue in cheek.

Is there a specific direction you’re moving towards. What’s the inspiration behind this new music, what’ve you been listening to?

I don’t feel like there’s a specific direction that we’re heading in, but I’d say our tastes are getting broader. We often introduce new music to one another, and incorporate more and more influences into the writing process. I’d say our aim is just to keep writing music that we get a kick out of. There’s a psych influence on some of the new songs that is a new thing for all of us. We’re really into repetition at the moment!

Has there been any major obstacles or standouts that you’ve found challenging during the creative process?

All four of us bring ideas into the band room; it’s the most collaborative band that any of us have ever been in. So, we tend to write often and nothing is off the creative table so to speak. The hardest part is deciding which songs to work on because we’re juggling so many ideas. We have a white board in the rehearsal space with about 20 ideas to work on! It’s a bit daunting but it’s a nice problem to have. Generally, we enjoy writing. If we’re getting bogged down in something, we usually just take a break from it just chill out with a brew instead.

Finally, are there any other artists that you think people should listen to?

There’s some great music coming out of Keighley and West Yorkshire. We recommend that you check out Scouge, The Tall Trees, Cry About In, Instant Bin and Cherry Seraph.
