Jake Stayt - What If?

About...

Jake Stayt is a singer-songwriter from London, known for his thoughtful lyrics and dreamy acoustic soundscape, he takes inspiration from the likes of Bruno Major and Adam Melchor. Latest release ‘What If?’ see’s Jake feel the pressure of the world and questions if people will still be around if he fails

Lyrics...

‘What If?’ as the title suggests runs through the track with Jake finding his feet with someone, seeing if they’ll still be there if he tries but fails at things.

The verses often fall back to taking someone’s hand and going forward despite not knowing what is right or wrong, the idea of holding hands in this track feels like a metaphor for being each other’s rock to fall back on

Production...

The production blends traditional and electronic instrumentation with the natural warmth of the acoustic guitars and synthesisers/ drones in the background filling out the track

The track constantly evolves throughout into a sonic climax full of percussive elements and grouped vocals, this growth is heard throughout with constant additions the track and ear worms

Summary...

This is a great track from Jake, off the back of EP ‘Starting Somewhere’ it seems like he’s beginning to build his soundscape and find his own sound and feet in the self-producer role.

With a new year on the horizon hopefully we’ll get to hear more music from Jake and maybe even some live performances and shows, to let us into his sound.
