Kid Kapichi - 999

About...

Kid Kapichi are a self-proclaimed ‘Beat-Punk’ band from the seaside town of Hastings, with two acclaimed albums already under their belt. The band’s signature blend of political commentary and hook-laden riffage is back with a vengeance on new single ‘999’, the third to be taken from upcoming album There Goes The Neighbourhood

Lyrics...

The lyrics paint a bleak- but sadly accurate- picture of modern policing, with lines such as “So many cases/ If they’re not rapists, they’re fucking racists”, as stark as they are scathing. The chorus recalls the Clash’s The Guns of Brixton, asking the listener if they would “cower in the corner or fight, fight, fight”, when faced with damming police misconduct

Production...

Produced by Nothing But Thieves’ Dom Craik, the song sounds massive and is impossible to ignore. Driven by punchy drums and bristling bass, the striking verses reflect the urgency of the lyrics, while the sonic swirl of the chorus perfectly complements the band’s call to arms

Summary...

‘999’ is yet another razor-sharp slice of social justice from the band, who look set to enjoy a genuinely transformative year- well deserved after years of hard work and top-drawer songwriting
