Alternative/indie music artist, Sam Eastgate, also known by his stage name as LA Priest, opened his long-awaited second solo project in June 2020 with ‘Beginning,’ an energetic, electronic pop track which also featured as the album’s first single, being released a month prior to the album, in May.

Titled ‘Beginning’ to cleverly introduce his 2020 sophomore album, GENE, the track opens with warm and clearly enunciated lyrics featuring elements of love and fire. By the chorus, LA Priest’s articulation is buried under synths and electronic drums, creating a strange yet superb ambiguity around the lyrics and sounds.

Written and produced by Eastgate himself, ‘Beginning’ was released with Domino Recording Company in 2020. Sam Eastgate built his own drum machine, which can be heard throughout the song, conjuring a great beat for the track which creates a dynamic and vibrant rhythm.

A highly energetic yet somewhat melancholic track, ‘Beginning,’ features as one of LA Priest’s most played songs, even four years after the songs release. A few months after its release, ‘Beginning’ was featured in the highly popular video game, FIFA 21, which heavily boosted LA Priest’s worldwide appeal.
