The track is based on a line from Lord Byron’s poem ‘Don Juan’ “Let us have wine and woman, mirth and laughter, sermons, and soda water the day after.”
Talking about the track Mardi says “Sermons and soda is about freeing yourself from someone with an addiction who always brings you down. Everyone has that friend who just didn’t stop partying. You might try to help them but at some point, you need to look after yourself and say, ‘I wish you well, but I’ve done everything I can and now I’m going to look after myself’.”

The album is self-produced in her Brisbane home and mixed by Charlie Holmes, the track features a future pop sound with its driving synthesisers and 80s percussive elements. The mix gives the track clarity and energy helping push Mardi’s vocals and allowing her story to be upheld by the instrumental

Having gained recognition from several international music blogs/ radio stations and getting into the semi-finals of the International Song writing Competition, Mardi has a big backing with the new album. Having been two years in the making and a lot of work from Mardi’s side the sky is the limit for this release and future tracks
